Bangor High School on Wednesday said it would hold a drive-up graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020 to be streamed live on Sunday, June 14.

The ceremony will start at 4 p.m.

Some details are still being worked out, but the basic framework is in place:

It will be a vehicle-based graduation in which graduates (one per vehicle) will be honored individually. The graduate will be in the passenger's seat of the vehicle, driven by a family member. The graduate will then exit the vehicle to receive their diploma under physical distancing guidelines. The event will be streamed live so family members can watch.

The entire process was outlined in a Facebook post from Bangor High School:

Maine students are learning remotely as schools are closed because of the coronavirus pandemic. Students are expected to continue remote learning through the end of the year.

Other schools throughout the state are planning graduation ceremonies with varied approaches.
