An Augusta man faces an explosives charge after suspicious devices were found during a traffic stop.

Augusta, Maine Man Arrested with Explosive Devices

Nicholas Presby, 43, of Augusta, was charged with criminal use of explosives by the State Fire Marshal's Office.

The investigation began on Monday, when a vehicle in which Presby was an occupant, was stopped by the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office in Newcastle for a traffic violation. When a search of the vehicle revealed what appeared to be explosive devices, the Fire Marshal's Office was called.

Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Shannon Moss says the driver was taken to jail on an outstanding warrant.

Augusta, Maine Man Arrested After the Search of a Home in Pittston

On Wednesday, a search warrant was executed at 158 Wiscasset Road in Pittston.

Due to the high-risk nature of the situation, the Fire Marshal called in the Maine State Police Tactical Team to help with the search, as well as the Bomb Squad.

Officials have not commented on what was seized in that search, but Presby was arrested and charged with criminal use of explosives. Mr. Presby was at the address when the search was conducted but doesn't live there.

Pittston, Maine School Put on Lockdown During Search for Explosives

The Pittston-Randolph Consolidated School was also put on temporary lockdown while the search took place, and Route 27 (Dresden Road) was closed.

This investigation is ongoing. Police say there is no current threat to the public.
