Investigators with the Augusta Police Department hope to hear from anyone who witnessed a robbery at the Big Apple over the weekend.

Deputy Chief Kevin Lully says Officer Provisor was patrolling near Civic Center Drive and the Townsend Road early Sunday afternoon when he heard people shouting. As he approached the Big Apple on Civic Center Drive, he saw a man fleeing from the store, followed by a store employee. The suspect was caught a very short time later and identified as Jesse D. Nichols, 29, who's a transient often seen in Augusta. According to the clerk, Nichols entered the store and allegedly demanded an undisclosed amount of money.

Police say, although an arrest has been made, they're hoping to hear from anyone who may have witnessed the robbery, or the suspect fleeing the scene. Information can be reported to the Augusta Police Department, Criminal Investigations Bureau at (207) 262-2370, extension 3418.
