The investigation began just before 8:30 Monday morning when the teen's parents called Auburn Police and reported her missing. They told authorities that one of the girl's friends had reported a dropped call from their daughter and that she seemed to be under some sort of duress. The parents went to their daughter's last known location, in a parking lot across the street from her home, and found her cellphone, but no sign of the girl.

Police obtained surveillance video of the area and saw a dark-colored Volvo station wagon with a male driver enter the parking lot a short time later. Multiple law enforcement agencies began an exhaustive search for the vehicle and the girl. Finally, at approximately 2:30 Tuesday morning, an Auburn police officer spotted the vehicle traveling on Minot Avenue and pulled the driver over. The missing girl was found inside the car with what police called visible signs that she had been assaulted.

Gavin was allegedly armed with a loaded gun at the time of the traffic stop and was immediately taken into custody. The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical attention, where she was reunited with her family. Police say she told investigators that she was forced to enter Gavin's vehicle after being threatened with a firearm and was then assaulted. She said the assaults continued during the evening.

Police say additional charges against Gavin are forthcoming.
