Aroostook Drivers Warned Of Huge Snowbanks + High Winds [PHOTOS]
Aroostook County Roads Winter 2019
Police are cautioning drivers in Aroostook County that conditions are often treacherous, with 10-foot snowbanks and high winds.
Maine State Police say areas throughout the county, but especially north of Monticello, are seeing whiteout conditions and snowbanks that are encroaching onto the roadways, narrowing travel lanes. Motorists are encouraged to drive with caution and give themselves extra time to get to their destination.
MDOT work crews are out, trying to clear up trouble spots and widen the roads. Police ask that motorists turn on their headlights for visibility and be aware of the crew members and slow moving plows.
The Aroostook County Sheriff's Office has closed some roads, because they're just to treacherous to venture on. Some of the closures include the Presque Isle portion of the Center Line Road, the Wade and Blake Roads in Limestone. Get updated information on the DOT's 511 page.
