Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland reports State Police are investigating the armed robbery that happened around 2:30 Friday morning at the store on Newport Road. Police say a young man brandished a gun and demanded money. A female clerk refused to hand over any cash and ran into the store's office. The robber fled the store on foot, and police believe then traveled along a nearby rail trail. The clerk was not hurt in the incident.

The suspect is described as being around 30 years old, six feet tall, and weighing about 220 pounds, with blue eyes and dark hair. He was wearing a black zippered hoodie with white strings, black Carhart winter hat, black face mask, and blue latex gloves.

Troopers are being assisted by Maine Game Wardens as they search the area, and have also received assistance from the Newport and Dexter Police Departments. Anyone with information is asked to contact the State Police in Bangor at 973-3700.
