Not everyone is going to share a favorite grocery store—or a favorite anything, for that matter—and that’s just human nature. We’re simply going off the latest information available to us and sharing what we find.

So, how does a supermarket even earn the title of ‘America’s Favorite?’ And what criteria determine the winner?

The American Customer Satisfaction Index gathered data through thousands of email surveys sent to randomly selected customers between January and December 2024. These surveys asked participants to rate their experiences with major supermarkets and smaller grocery stores based on factors like store convenience, product availability, staff helpfulness, mobile app performance, and order accuracy, all contributing to a single satisfaction score for ranking.

Now that we’ve covered that, which supermarket in 2025 has claimed the title of America’s Favorite Supermarket? And where can it be found in Maine?

Trader Joe’s, known for its unique and affordable private-label products, tied for the top spot in customer satisfaction with a score of 84 and, according to Yahoo!, is being called ‘America’s New Favorite Supermarket.’ While Maine doesn’t have a Publix, we do have a Trader Joe’s on Marginal Way in Portland!

The American Customer Satisfaction Index is a great way to measure America’s favorite supermarkets overall, but that doesn’t mean it matches everyone’s personal favorite.

Here in Maine, plenty of folks may prefer Hannaford, Shaw’s, or even Walmart—and there’s no wrong choice!

The results are in! Trader Joe’s and Publix have tied for first place in customer satisfaction for 2025. We already have a Trader Joe’s, so maybe it’s time for a Publix next!
