Temperatures in New England are going to skyrocket this weekend and retailers know it. All of the stores that I visited today, I witnessed employees working vigorously to make sure shelves were replenished expeditiously with fast-selling air conditioner units.

As of the afternoon on Monday, June 17th, 2024, just hours before temps are forecasted to be unbearable, these are the stores that I saw firsthand that have AC units available.

Walmart in Brewer, Maine Had a Limited Selection of Air Conditioners

Walmart in Brewer had a very limited selection of air conditioners. They also had the most affordable with a 5,000 BTU unit for a 150-square-foot room for only $144. There is nothing fancy about it, but it'll keep a room cool. I can vouch for this as I picked one up, too. Expect mainly window air conditioners as at the time, there were only a couple portable AC units available.

Home Depot in Bangor, Maine Had the Largest Supply of Air Conditioner Units

Home Depot in Bangor, Maine had by far the largest supply of air conditioners, but they were also going fast with a consistent flow of customers picking up these cooling machines despite Home Depot staff working feverishly to keep the displays full. Cheers to you Home Depot and your staff.

The most popular AC unit going out the giant Home Depot exit doors while I was there were portable versions for around $400-$500. The Bangor location had various sizes and varieties for both window and portable.

This would be a good time to share that prices on AC units at all retailers that I visited today were approximately the same price and I didn't see any price gouging. Good on ya Maine!

Mardens in Brewer, Maine Had a Very Limited Selection of AC Units

Mardens in Brewer, Maine appeared to only have a couple different options for AC units and a limited supply. HOWEVER, I have been told that Mardens is like the weather in Maine; if you don't like the selection, just wait 5-minutes. Who knows what each Mardens location offers and what will be restocked the next day.

For $189, Sam's Club in Bangor has an AC window unit to keep a 10 by 25-foot room cooled. Again, prices at all locations were fairly similar, but this was one of the better deals for an air conditioner with a digital display and remote control.

And Finally, Best Buy in Bangor, Maine Had Air Conditioner Displays All Over Its Store

Best Buy in Bangor are aware of exactly why people are coming into their store this week, and it's not to visit the Geek Squad.

If you are looking to keep cool the next few days with an AC unit, I wouldn't wait. All the stores mentioned have their respective links above that contain their store hours and phone numbers. I would certainly make a call before heading out to confirm their inventory. Stay cool!
