The parent company of A.C. Moore announced Monday it soon would close all of its U.S. stores, including three in Maine -- Bangor, Augusta and South Portland.

"For over 30 years, our stores have been servicing the creative community with a vast selection of art and craft materials, with one common focus, the customer," A.C. Moore's CEO Anthony Piperno said in a statement. "Plans for closing specific A.C. Moore locations will be shared in the upcoming weeks on our website."

In total, more than 140 A.C. Moore stores will close.

However, up to 40 stores will reopen as Michaels. There's no word yet on whether any, some or all of the Maine stores will reopen.

As of Monday, A.C. Moore stopped accepting further online orders.

Michaels operates more than 1,260 stores in 49 states and Canada. There currently are three Micahels locations in the state -- Augusta, Biddeford and Scarborough.

We'll have more information when it becomes available.
