A pastime that you could take up during the cold winter months here in Maine is coined 'night skiing'. There are plenty of locations throughout the state to get outside in the dark with only a few lights to guide you down the slopes.

Seeing as though the nighttime is earlier than the rest of the year, you can count nighttime skiing for any time after 5 PM. If you are up for a nighttime run on the slopes, check out these eight locations in Maine known for offering some night skiing.

Black Mountain in Rumford

Check their website for upcoming events, snow totals in the past 24 hours, in the past 7 days, at the base, and on the trails, and take a peek at their website calendar for 'Free Ski Nights' on select Wednesdays.

Camden Snow Bowl in Camden

Wednesday, Thursdays, and Fridays you can ski on the mountain until 7 P.M. At Camden Snow Bowl, nighttime is considered 3 P.M. and after.  And, if you have a need for speed, visit their website for 'Friday Night Racing' at the Snow Bowl.

Lost Valley in Auburn

This ski spot has later hours, with Mondays through Thursday being open until 8 PM, Saturdays until 9 PM. Tuesdays have a special LL Bean Family Night from 3 PM - 8 PM.

New Hermon Mountain in Hermon

Tuesdays through Fridays, this ski spot is open until 8 PM. Check their website for the snow report and to see a live camera view of what's happening right now on Hermon Mountain.

Shawnee Peak in Bridgton

This ski location says it has 'the most night skiing in New England'. Check their website for current weather conditions, snow depth, how many trails are opened and how many are groomed.

Spruce Mountain in Jay

Get under the lights for night skiing at this mostly volunteer-run recreation location. Normal hours regularly end at 8 PM Wednesday, Friday and Saturdays. Make sure you have some leather mits in order to grip the rope tow.

Sunday River in Newry

This ski resort is a world-class skiing location. There is a special pass for a twilight run on the slopes on Saturdays from 3 PM to 6 PM. Discounts for active military, college students and locals are available.

Titcomb Mountain in Farmington

Regular hours for these slopes are Saturday and Sunday, 9 AM - 3 PM. But, check the events section of the website throughout the season for nighttime opportunities.
