A Northport man has died in a rollover crash while he was on his tractor.

Waldo County Chief Deputy Jason Trundy identified the victim as 62-year-old Scotty Richards. Trundy says a 911 call was received by the Waldo County Dispatch Center at approximately 7:00 Tuesday evening that a tractor had gone off the pavement of Atlantic Highway in Northport. Members of the Northport Fire Department and Waldo County Sheriff's Office responded and found that the tractor had rolled over.

Witnesses say they observed Richards operating the Michigan 55A Loader northbound on Atlantic Highway when it began rolling backward. The tractor rolled down the highway before it left the side of the road and rolled over into the ditch. Richards was ejected from the loader and died as a result of his injuries.

A portion of the road was closed while multiple wrecker companies assisted in clearing the scene. Trundy says the specific cause of the crash remains under investigation. No one else was hurt in the incident.
