Two people were killed in a snowmobile accident overnight. Police say the sled hit a tree and neither rider was wearing a helmet.

ABC-7 reports Aleasha Godin, age 17, and Jason Teifert, age 21, were killed around 2:00 Sunday morning when the sled they were riding just off the Kelley Road in Glenburn struck a tree. According to rescue crews, the two were at a nearby residence when they decided to take a ride.

Police say neither person was wearing a helmet and speed is considered to have been a factor in the crash. Autopsies are planned to determine whether alcohol was also a factor.

Godin was a senior at Hermon High School, where officials say they're preparing to help students deal with the loss.
