Two young girls from Lamoine are being honored for their quick thinking and responsible actions calling 9-1-1 to rescue a woman stuck on a roof.

On November 25th the Hancock County Regional Communications Center got a 9-1-1 call from a young child reporting a person stuck on a roof. RCC was able to triangulate the source of a cell phone call and determine that the incident was on Shore Road in Lamoine. Firefighters quickly arrived on the scene and placed a ladder on the home to assist a woman down from the roof without injury, who turned out to be the girls' mother.

Even more surprising, the person who made the 9-1-1 call was a 5-year old. Her name is Sophia Rosales. She and her 3-year old sister, Natalie were home when their mother went to their roof to clean leaves from the gutters. The young sisters found their mom’s cell phone and properly called 9-1-1 to get help getting their mom down from the roof.  Their actions serve as a reminder on how important it is for parents to teach the proper use of a telephone or cell phone to report an emergency, even at a young age.

On Thursday, December 4th at 4 PM at the Hancock County RCC, Dispatcher Anastasia Dayhoff-Osage, Hancock County RCC Director along with Lamoine Fire Chief George “Skip” Smith will honor the Rosales girls for their ability to effectively utilize the 9-1-1 phone system at such a young age. A Lamoine fire truck will escort the Rosales family from the fire station to the RCC office at the Hancock County Courthouse in Ellsworth for a brief presentation. The public is welcome to attend and help celebrate the Rosales girls!
