Wreaths Across America is known for honoring America's Veterans, with a pilgrimage to Arlington National Cemetery each holiday season. Now, the organization is holding a special open house to honor vets, but also to educate them on local programs.

Kelly Hinkle of Wreaths Across America says the purpose of the open house is to educate local veterans, active service members, and their families on the opportunities and local services available to them in the region. More than a dozen organizations and businesses will be on hand to talk about the many services they offer for veterans and their families.

But the day is not only about education. A free lunch buffet will be offered, with music provided by the Danny Harper Band. Harper will sing a new song he composed that tells the story of 'Wreaths Across America.' And there will be a film festival, featuring videos created and presented by students from the Hancock Community Technical Center. The films focus on the wreath escort last December from Harrington, Maine to Arlington National Cemetery in Washington, D.C.

"This event serves to create an open discussion on how the community can give back and show gratitude for the sacrifices made by our veterans and active military," said Karen Worcester, WAA's Executive Director, in a press release. "We're focused on highlighting services many veterans are eligible for, but may not be aware of."

The Veterans Open House will be held this Saturday, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Wreaths Across America Headquarters, 4 Point Street, in Columbia Falls. It's open to all local veterans, active duty military, and their families.
