You've heard the old saying, "Almost only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades," meaning that in life you most always have to be accurate, not just close enough. However, if you're an oil rig worker who has been assigned to lighting a tower spewing vaporous gas with a flare gun, then you really need to be somewhat accurate. Then again, it's pretty obvious that spreading gas only means that you need to be in the neighborhood with a flare shot.

Oh, and by the way, it's normal for oil rig towers to shed excessive gas. Burning off the excess is the safest way to get rid of it.
