A Chelsea woman was seriously injured today when her car was struck by a large crane traveling along Route 9 in that town. The driver of the crane was not injured.

Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland said in a press release today that 76-year-old Sally Gousse pulled out of her driveway and into the path of the crane, owned by W.H. Green and Sons. The big rig swerved, attempting to avoid the collision, but struck the car on the driver’s side.

The crane was operated by 52-year-old Eugene Green of Manchester who was not injured. Gousse was taken by ambulance to MaineGeneral in Augusta. There's no word on her condition.

The crash closed Route 9 for about an hour and took place in front of Tim’s RV Service. Police say the car was demolished. There was little damage to the crane.
