A Van Buren woman was transported to Cary Medical Center after her car struck a moose Wednesday night on Route 1 in Connor.

Jacklyne Girard, 29, was traveling north in a 1999 Subaru when a moose ran into the roadway, state police said early Thursday morning.

The animal was struck by the front end of Girard's vehicle, smashing the windshield and collapsing the roof of the car.

Girard was removed from the vehicle by Caribou fire and ambulance personnel.
