Orient Log Truck-Car Collision

A woman sustained non-life threatening injuries when her car collided with a fully loaded logging truck in Orient.

State Police say the accident happened just before 10 o'clock Wednesday morning at the intersection of US Highway 1 and Deering Lake Road. A car driven by Susan Hanscom of Orient made a left turn onto US Highway 1, pulling out in front of the fully loaded truck. Robert Grass of Brookton tried to stop his truck, but was unable to avoid hitting Hanscom's car. The log truck continued on its northern path when the vehicles collided, but Hanscom's car was spun 180 degrees before coming to rest in a ditch.

Grass wasn't hurt in the accident, but Hanscom was trapped in her sedan. Fire Department personnel from Danforth and Houlton responded to the scene and used the jaws-of-life to get her out of the wreckage. She was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital by Houlton Ambulance with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

The car was a total loss, while the logging truck sustained operable damage. The accident remains under investigation.
