Everyone seems to question the right-of-way here and ignores the "no right on red!" Here's how the intersection is supposed to work.

At the intersection of State St and Harlow St.  you will often find lane confusion and a lot of general mayhem when the light turns green. Who has the right of way here?!

If you are coming down State St. hill into downtown, stop and wait on red. YOU CANNOT RIGHT ON RED HERE! This is something a lot of people miss, but as you can see in the photo above, there is a sign.

When the light turns green cars on State St. have the right of way as does the left most lane facing State St. hill. This is where it gets confusing. After all of the vehicles have turned from State St. to Harlow, the inner left turning lane now has their chance to proceed onto Harlow or Park St. if the light is still green.

So next time you come to this intersection and you are coming down State St. hill, go when the light turns green, don't sit there trying to be nice and wave on the other lane. Follow the rules, read signs, and maybe someday this intersection will operate a little smoother!
