In the course of our lives as everyday Joes and Josephines, especially in the Bangor area, it's rare we have the opportunity to meet anyone particularly famous. Maybe once in a great while you hear about a friend meeting a celebrity down in Bar Harbor, or some place down in southern Maine. Maybe you've run into Stephen King at the grocery store, or Dana White from the UFC out and about downtown.

Sometimes it's really cool to meet a celebrity. You read those stories about Bill Murray crashing a party, or sitting next to Keanau Reeves on the subway down in New York City. Other times they can be impatient jerks who won't even give you the time of day.

When I was about 12 years old, Buddy Rich, the famous jazz drummer, came to town, and he wouldn't give me an autograph after the show. He simply pointed out how stupid it was to bother someone just to have their name on a piece of paper. That feeling has never gone away after all these years. On the other hand, I met Ozzy Osbourne's guitar player once, Zakk Wylde, and he was an absolute gentleman. Go figure.

So I was curious about some of the folks you guys might have met over the years. I posed the question on Facebook and really enjoyed the diverse collection of stories. Let's check a few out!

Since they have a house down around Kennebunkport, you might just run into any member of the Bush Family!

Running into a famous sports figure is always a good time. They're usually super humble folks that take the time to appreciate their fans.

Sometimes the Secret Service does their job a bit too well, and you have to be a bit sneaky.

Sometimes you also wish TV doctors were as compassionate in real life as the characters they play on TV, but life ain't always fair.

The thing that's really hard to remember sometimes, is that famous people are just that...people. Maybe we hold them to to high a standard for how they should treat us, but sometimes they're just straight up jerks. You never know what kind of day that person is having. It's easy to assume because they're rich, that they've just got nothing to be upset about. But you know what they say...more money, more problems.

However, don't let it stop you from walking right up to whoever that awesome celebrity is and introducing yourself. Chances are, you'll be pleasantly surprised at how gracious they are. And if they aren't, you'll have an awesome story to tell your friends about that time you met so and so, and they failed you. But just play nice. You never know, you may end up famous someday!
