Who’s Intercepting Your Calls & Texts?

Okay, well now I'm a bit skeezed out from reading this article from Popular Science about bogus cell phone towers in the US.

Seventeen fake cell phone towers in the US could be listening in on calls and reading texts messages from people located near the towers. In this article by Popular Science there's a map showing where these towers are located. The article states one expert doesn't believe it's NSA towers, but says he doesn't know who the towers belong to or WHY they're there?!
