Alex Gray, the founder of Waterfront Concerts, was arrested Sunday and charged with domestic violence assault, according to police.

Gray, 41, was placed under arrest after an incident in Portland in which he allegedly slammed a woman’s head into ground and choked her, according to Capt. Lee Miller of the Old Town Police Department.

Gray originally was charged with aggravated domestic violence assault, a felony, but state prosecutors downgraded the charge to domestic violence assault, a misdemeanor, according to a report by WMTW.

Miller said his department was contacted by Portland police and asked to make the arrest.

Old Town police arrested Gray at his Fourth Street residence without incident and transported him to Augusta, where he was handed over to Portland police, Miller said.

Gray was released on $750 bail, according to the Bangor Daily News.
