Waterfront Concerts Draw 200,000+ to Bangor, Study Finds [VIDEO]

People who attended the concerts spent $18.6 million locally with another $11.8 million in indirect spending, according to the study by Todd Gabe, a University of Maine economics professor.
People have spent more each year of the concert series. Gabe estimated the direct economic infusion was almost $3 million in 2010, $5.8 million in 2011 and $9.8 million in 2012.
“The number of shows has increased since 2010, and people seem to be coming from greater distances,” Gabe said in a news release. “This explains the large increase in economic impact.”
Gabe studied the zip codes of ticket buyers and found that 25 percent – an estimated 50,000 people — lived within 30 minutes of the waterfront. About 15 percent traveled more than three hours to attend a concert.
The study was presented to the Bangor City Council on Monday.
