An Andover man was killed when he crashed his sled on his way home from dinner.

Wardens investigated the accident overnight that happened on the Interconnecting Trail System (ITS) 84, north of Rumford. Officials say it appears 47-year-old Gregory Simmons lost control of his sled and was ejected. Another snowmobiler came across the scene and reported the accident at 9:00 Thursday evening.

It's believed that Simmons had been at a local restaurant, the Knotty Moose, for dinner prior to the incident and was riding home at the time of the crash. Game Wardens say speed appears to have been a factor in the accident. Simmons was wearing a helmet.

Rumford and Mexico Fire Departments aided Wardens at the scene, as well as Med-Care Ambulance. The State Medical Examiner's Office will investigate cause of death.

This is the second fatal snowmobile crash of the season.
