A Wiscasset man fought off a potentially rabid fox Tuesday at a scrap yard in Topsham.

Mark Sleeper was bitten on the arm by the animal around 6:45 a.m. at Grimmel Industries, Cpl. John MacDonald of the Maine Warden Service told WCSH/WLBZ.

Sleeper was taken to Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, where he was given a rabies vaccine.

Later in the day, a fox was struck and killed by a vehicle on Grimmel Industries property. MacDonald said that fox was sickly-looking with porcupine quills in its face, and he believes it's the same animal that attacked Sleeper.

The fox was taken to a lab for testing.
