A video made in Waterville of a huge murder (that's the proper name for a flock) of crows looks like something out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie!

At the beginning, it's just a typical video of someone who noticed a large group of birds. But about 2:04 into the video, they all take flight. And that's when you realize just how MANY of them are there! Seriously, it's like a scene from 'The Birds.'

My Dad instilled in me a fascination with birds and the way they communicate. How do they know to suddenly all take flight at once? And how do they know to change direction at the same time? I would have been just like this couple, stopping to take video of the birds.

I'll never forget one Christmas, headed back to my apartment in Bangor after spending the day at my parents' house. My son and I noticed what originally looked like a hole in the ice on the Penobscot, as we crossed the Chamberlain Bridge. But we quickly noticed that it wasn't a hole, but rather a very large group of big black birds (crows or starlings...not really sure) that were clustered together on the icy surface. We drove down to the Bangor Waterfront and watched them for a while. If they had taken to the wing as one, I think it would have looked a little like this!
