Police say a vehicle belonging to a Newport man broke through the ice on Sebasticook Lake Monday night.

Newport police Chief Leonard Macdaid says an SUV owned by Eric Lane plunged through the ice about 300 feet from shore.

Macdaid tells the Bangor Daily News Lane was “goofing off” on the ice when the incident occurred.

The vehicle broke through the ice around 9 p.m. on Monday. Macdaid said police were called at 9 a.m. the next day.

No charges were filed.

Lane was not hurt in the incident.
