There have been several acts of vandalism reported in the Bangor City Forest recently. According to a post on their Facebook page, someone has been going into the forest after hours and vandalizing signs with graffiti on various trails. The incidents have been going on for some time and have been escalating, but there's only limited information about the person or persons who have been doing the damage.

It is believed there may be multiple individuals. Some may be doing the writing, while others may be look-outs. A volunteer for the City Forest has spotted a vehicle in the vicinity multiple times, and was even once confronted by the owner of the car in question.

Days later, the same vehicle was spotted in the lot again, and the City Forest volunteer went into the forest to check on the Tripp Drive Kiosk. Upon returning, the other car was gone, but as you can see in the photos, the driver's side window and tail light were smashed out.

It's unclear from the Facebook post whether anyone has contacted authorities about not only the vandalism to the signage, but the vehicle as well. If someone is charged, potential penalties for this kind of crime are possible fines and restitution, and up to one year in prison.

It's sad to see this sort of thing happening at the City Forest. It's such a peaceful environment that benefits everyone, and hurts no one. Let's keep it that way.
