Two teenage boys were arrested after attempting to break into a home on Winter Street in Brewer, according to police.

Police say both boys were wearing masks during the indicent, which happened at about 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. One boy was armed with a knife and the other with an airsoft gun disguised to look real. The homewoners were present at the time and called police. The two boys were unable to gain entry into the house and fled, according to a news release from the Brewer Police Department.

The boys, ages 16 and 17, were taken into custody at a Parker Street residence shortly after the incident.

In a subsequent interview, Brewer Deputy Chief Jason Moffitt said the break-in is unrelated to recent home invasions in the area, and urged homeowners to be vigilant in locking their doors.
