Two men have been arrested in connection with the discovery of a meth lab in Lewiston.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says agents from the MDEA Western District Task Force arrested 35-year-old Raymond Nelson and 32-year-old Merlin Ellingwood at the apartment they were staying in at 197 Bartlett Street in Lewiston. Nelson also goes by the name Kent Lathrop. A search of the apartment had turned up evidence of a 'One Pot' method of making meth. Both men were charged with Unlawful Operation of a Meth Lab.

The MDEA's Clandestine Laboratory Enforcement Team was called in to seize the evidence and clear the dangerous chemicals, with help from the Maine Department of Environmental Protection. Nelson and Ellingwood were taken to the Androscoggin County Jail where Nelson's bail was set at ten thousand dollars, and Ellingwood's bail was set at five hundred dollars.

Agents and Lewiston Police had received information that the pair had been making meth at different locations around the city. The renter of the apartment was not home at the time of the arrests. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected.
