A 19-year-old woman and 24-year-old man were taken to the hospital after their vehicles collided Friday morning on Route 161 in St. John Plantation.

The wreck occurred when Brian Holland of Fort Kent pulled out of a parking lot and into the path of a car operated by Makayla Martin of St. Francis, state police said in a Friday news release.

Martin tried to avoid crashing into Holland's pickup truck but was unable to do, and the two vehicles collided head-on.

The release said Martin and Holland both suffered injuries that required medical attention, and the two were transported to the hospital by ambulance, but the release included no further information on the extent of their injuries.

The two vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed from the scene.

Both drivers were wearing seat belts.
