State police say two people were killed Friday in separate accidents in Westbrook and Whitefield.

In Westbrook, a man was struck along the Maine Turnpike as he was outside his vehicle, Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety, said in a Friday news release.

The incident on the turnpike took place near Exit 48 in the northbound lanes.

In Whitefield, one person was killed when a dump truck overturned off Doyle Road, the release said.

The truck in Whitefield ended up on its side and struck a tree.

The names of the victims were not included in the press release, but McCausland said additional information would likely be released later in the afternoon.
