Two Charged With Arson In Machiasport Boat Fire

The State Fire Marshal’s Office says two suspects have been charged with arson for burning a boat in Machiasport last month.

Last week, Joseph Moore II, 29, of Machiasport and a 17-year-old boy from East Machias were each charged with arson and failing to report a dangerous fire, the Maine Department of Public Safety said in a news release on Tuesday.

A 22-foot skiff and a 90hh Mercury outboard were destroyed in the blaze outside the True North Salmon plant on June 23.

Investigators said the two were attempting to steal the boat’s gasoline tank.

Both Moore and the boy will appear in court on August 2.
