Two adults and a two-year-old child jumped from a burning home over the weekend to safety.

Fire broke out at the house on River Road in Cherryfield just before 4 o'clock Sunday morning. Fire Chief Charlie Curtis Jr. told TV-5 that a man, his girlfriend, and his 2-year-old child were living on the second floor.

The man reportedly jumped from the window, his girlfriend tossed the toddler to him, and then she jumped too. The man and child were both taken to an Ellsworth hospital with unspecified injuries. Curtis said the woman broke both her legs and was taken to EMMC in Bangor.

Two firefighters were slightly injured, as well.A woman living on the first floor escaped the house unharmed. Officials say the damage was too extensive to determine what started the blaze. They say they do not believe there were working smoke detectors in the house.
