A truck driver from Patten was seriously hurt when his rig overturned on Route 1 in Hodgdon on Wednesday.

Richard Brackett, 28, was pulling a loaded chip trailer when he crashed his truck on a stretch of Route 1 known as Calais Road.

Police said Brackett lost control of the vehicle because he was driving too fast while negotiating a curve. The truck went into the right shoulder, which was soft because of recent road work.

The truck and trailer rolled onto its right side, broke a utility pole and crashed into some trees.

Brackett was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Crews from Eastern Maine Electric and Fair Point responded to the scene due to the damage to the pole, an electrical transformer and several wires.

The Maine Department of Environmental Protection responded due to the truck leaking diesel fuel from both fuel tanks.

Route 1 was shut down for several hours while crews cleaned up the accident.

The truck, owned by K.R. Lane Logging Inc. of Sherman, Maine, is considered a total loss.
