Truck Driver Charged After Crash That Injured 10-Month-Old

A box truck driver has been charged in connection to an accident in Waterboro that seriously injured a 10-month-old child.

The accident happened around 6:30 Thursday morning on Main Street, as 37-year-old Ellen Kennedy was trying to turn left onto Straw Mill Brook Road. A box truck driven by 53-year-old Rene Romero of Lynn, Massachusetts struck her SUV from behind, leaving Kennedy's 10-month-old child with severe injuries. Kennedy suffered minor injuries and Romero wasn't hurt in the crash.

Deputies told WGME-TV that witnesses said the truck's driver never hit the brakes and likely didn't notice the SUV until it was too late. Romero was charged with Aggravated Driving to Endanger and taken to the York County Jail. He's expected to make his first court appearance today.
