A State Trooper was injured when his cruiser was struck by another car passing through a construction site.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says Corporal Kyle Pelletier was sitting in his cruiser on the Maine Turnpike in Gray at around 9 p.m. when the accident happened Wednesday. Pelletier was assisting road crews who had closed down the passing lane for repairs.

As he sat in the lane, with his emergency lights activated, a second vehicle side-swiped his cruiser. Troopers say the driver of the vehicle, 57-year-old Deanna Marshall of Norway, was allegedly under the influence at the time of the crash.

Pelletier sustained an injury to his back and was treated and released from Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston. Marshall wasn't hurt but was taken to the hospital so her condition could be assessed. The woman's 2-year-old great-grandchild was sitting in the rear seat of her car and, luckily, wasn't hurt in the accident.

Marshall's car was demolished and several thousand dollars worth of damage was done to the cruiser. Police say charges are likely to be filed once they receive test results from the hospital.
