A routine traffic stop on Wednesday ended with the driver being arrested for possession of heroin. In addition, he was being sought by police in connection with an assault.

Augusta Police Lieutenant Christopher Massey said in a press release that Sergeant Danny Boivin passed a car being driven by Corey Dionne, age 25 of Augusta. He had knowledge that Dionne had a warrant for his arrest and so pulled him over.

While taking Dionne into custody, Boivin located approximately 40 grams of heroin. In addition, Dionne was being sought by police for an Aggravated Assault and Robbery that happened on May 25th of last year in Augusta. During that incident, a 27-year-old West Gardiner man was assaulted with a blunt object several times and had to be taken to the hospital for his injuries.

Dionne is charged with robbery, aggravated assault, aggravated trafficking in schedule W drugs (heroin), criminal forfeiture, and the warrant arrest out of Wiscasset for failing to fine/fees.
