Police are investigating an accident in which a tractor trailer drove under a train trestle that was not high enough for the rig to clear. No one was hurt in the accident but traffic was delayed.

Augusta Police Lieutenant Kevin Lully said in a press release that the accident happened just after 8:30 Tuesday morning. That's when police received several 911 calls about a possible tractor trailer crash on Water Street, in the area of the old train trestle.

The driver, Randall Doak, age 23 of Skowhegan, was not injured in the accident and neither were other drivers, when traffic flow was interrupted. Police say Doak, who was not familiar with the area, apparently had not noticed the height warning signs for the old trestle. Police say speed does not appear to have been a factor. There was substantial damage to the trailer and its load of commodities.

The Maine State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division also responded to the scene to assist. They continue to investigate the accident.
