New Year's Eve is a time to gather with family and friends, raise a glass to the year that's passed and toast the year to come! But Bangor Police remind you to do it safely. Don't drink and drive. And if you and your car need a ride home, there's someone who can help!

When I was younger and considerably wilder, we used to call New Year's Eve 'Amateur Night.' It's when all the non-partiers go out and drink, and they don't know enough to cover themselves at the end of the evening. There are options, like taking a cab to your destination and tucking away cab fare for the ride home. (tuck it away so you don't drink it away!) Or find a friend to act as designated driver. That means they don't drink at all. Promise to take them out and buy their drinks on another night if they'll act as DD. (of course, that means you're the DD on THAT night!)

But if you do find yourself intoxicated, or even buzzed, and you need to get yourself and your car home, Bangor Police remind you that there is a free option available. Every year, Union Street Towing offers free tows to partiers as a way to keep our roads, and our citizens, safe. It's an awesome service they provide out of the goodness of their hearts!

Bangor Police remind you that, if you get picked up for OUI, your car's going on the hook with Union Street Towing anyway, so you might as well call them to begin with and save yourself a court date. Add their number to your cell phone and give them a call. Have a Happy and Safe New Year's Eve!
