Medical Examiner Identifies Thomaston Body As That Of Transient

State police and the State Medical Examiner’s Office say the skeletal remains found in Thomaston last week are those of a 41-year-old transient who was last seen leaving the Knox County Jail last May.

According to a Thursday news release from the Maine Department of Public Safety, the body has been identified as Joshua Robichaud.

The department said Robichaud’s death is not considered suspicious, but the medical examiner has additional testing to complete before finalizing a cause of death.

The remains were found in a wooded area off Route 1 in Thomaston during the morning hours of Jan. 25.

Police said it appeared the badly decomposed body had been at that location for a number of months.

The release said Robichaud was arrested in May 2016 in Lewiston on outstanding warrants from Knox County. He was transported to the Knox County Jail and released after spending a short amount of time behind bars.

His relatives in North Carolina and Maine have been notified of the identification.
