This Day in Country Music History–Deana Carter, ‘Did I Shave My Legs for This?’
On this day in country music history in 1996, Deana Carter received a gold album for the debut of ‘Did I Shave My Legs for This?.’
Although we don’t hear a lot from Tennessee born Deana Carter these days, we sure as heck haven’t forgotten about her. It was in 1994 that a demo of Carter’s landed in Willie Nelson’s hands, who promptly invited her join Farm Aid VII–she was the only female on the bill. And it wasn’t long after Farm Aid that ‘Did I Shave My Legs for This?’ got some recognition.
Of course many today recognize her hit ‘Strawberry Wine,’ which remains a favorite on Q-106.5’s playlist. And although she’s not touring, she’s still performing at smaller venues and writing songs. You may recall a hit called, ‘You and Tequila,’ a song made famous by Kenny Chesney and Grace Potter, off Chesney’s 2010 album, ‘Hemingway’s Whiskey…Carter wrote that along with Matraca Berg. Impressive, huh?
Here’s a flashback video featuring Deana Carter from 1996. I think a lot of women can relate:
