Parents lives are put on hold temporarily while their children are young simply because some things become too difficult.

This article lists 16 things that are very, very hard to do if you have young children. Of the ones listed, I can relate to the following:

  • Eat In Nice Restaurants. How about eat at any restaurant - period. Mission impossible.
  • Sleep In. Never mind that, I would settle for sleeping 6-7 consecutive hours.
  • Take A Sick Day. Chances are all of your sick days will have been used up by staying home to take care of one of your sick children.
  • Get A Puppy. I don't know who gets hurt worse, the dog or the toddler?!
  • Work From Home. I tried this with one of my jobs. Not doable. However, the benefit was my daughter started typing on a computer at a year-&-a-half old and is way ahead of the game.
  • Rush Anywhere. True! Packing a diaper bag, drinks, snacks, toys, etc takes longer than you'd think every time.
  • Keep The Kitchen Clean. Why bother, a clean kitchen only lasts for 10 minutes.
  • Learn Anything New. I thought being a stay-at-home mom I'd have so much time for things; scrap booking, online internet radio station, cooking. Nope. If you're home with a young child they need all of your time. And when they are napping, you'll also want to be napping!
  • Shop. I can't tell you how many times I've had to leave a store without completing my shopping list because I had to get the kids out of there immediately.
