The legendary George Jones passed away the morning of Friday, April 26th, 2013. Today would've been the Possum's 83rd birthday. Let's take a look back at his life - the man that helped shape country music. 

  • George Glenn Jones was born 9/12/31 in Saratoga, TX.
  • May 20th, 1950 he marries Dorothy Bonvillion.
  • The marriage only lasted until June 13th, 1951.
  • Dorothy was already pregnant at the time of the divorce and gave birth to their daughter, Susan Smith on October 29th, 1951.
  • February 18th, 1954 George records his first record "No Money In This Deal".
  • September 4th, 1954 George remarries, this time to Shirley Ann Corley.
  • May 17th, 1955 George Jones releases his first single "Why Baby Why".
  • October 9th, 1955 Shirley gives birth to Jeffrey Glenn Jones.
  • January 1st, 1956 George Jones wins Billboard Award for Most Promising New Country Vocalist.
  • October 1st, 1957 George  releases "Grand Ole Opry's New Star" album.
  • January 7th, 1958 the "Hillbilly Hit Parade" album is released.
  • March 11th, 1958 George releases the "Long Live King George" album.
  • Shirley Ann Corley gives birth to Brian Daily Jones on July 16th, 1958.
  • January 20th, 1959 the "Country Church Time" album is released.
  • May 26th, 1959 George releases "White Lightning and Other Favorites".
  • Tribute album "George Jones Salutes Hank Williams" is released April 12th, 1960.
  • January 1st, 1962 he wins the Billboard Award for Male Vocalist of the Year.
  • January 8th, 1962 George releases "Sings Country and Western Hits".
  • George releases "Sings from the Heart" on March 19th, 1962.
  • June 11th, 1962 hereleases "George Jones Sings Bob Wills".
  • George releases "Homecoming in Heaven" on September 10th, 1962.
  • November 26th, 1962 "My Favorites of Hank Williams" is released.
  • January 1st, 1963 George wins the Billboard Award for Male Vocalist of the Year.

  • March 18th, 1968 he releases "The George Jones Story".
  • June 17th, 1968 George releases "If My Heart Had Windows".
  • After 13 years of marriage George divorces Shirley Ann Corley June 19th, 1968.
  • June 24th, 1968 he releases "My Country".
