I was thrilled this morning when I saw the first true sign of spring! It wasn't the birds, although they were chirping happily in the trees around my house. And it wasn't the hornets that have just recently started buzzing around our door.

First thing this morning, I took my coffee out onto the front step and listened. Birds, bees, and bugs made that sound that we all spend the winter craving. It says the temperature is warming up and summer is just around the corner!

But when I walked around the side of the house, to our backyard stream, I saw the first TRUE sign of spring. A dandelion! Poking up through the ground, surrounded by downed tree limbs that still need to be cleared away, next to the well-cap, its sunny face said more clearly than any other that spring is truly here.

Soon our large yard will be covered with the little yellow flowers and we'll wish that we had less. We'll regret the way they mar the green of our lawn. But, for now, that bright yellow flower is the best thing I've seen so far this season.

Happy Spring!
