A Texas man has been charged in connection with a hit-and-run accident Monday night on Interstate 95 in Smyrna.

Aulton Fiegel, 28, of Galveston, Texas is charged with leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, driving to endanger and operating after suspension, Maine State Police said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

Police said Karen Lewis, 38, of Houlton was driving north on I-95 when her Camry was struck from behind, forcing her vehicle off the roadway and into several trees.

The rear end of her car was "completely crushed" by the other vehicle, police said.

Lewis was transported to Houlton Regional Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The release said Fiegel was located at a hotel in Houlton, and his 2016 Ford F-350, which sustained significant front end damage in the crash, was found at a local garage.

Fiegel is scheduled to appear at the Houlton District Court on January, 17. He was not hurt in the accident.
