South Portland firefighters rescued a 19-year-old man who was trapped inside his vehicle after crashing through a building early Monday morning.

Police responded to a building on Broadway, formerly occupied by Northeast Turf Hue Inc., at approximately 12:17 a.m. after receiving a report of a personal injury crash, the South Portland Police Department said Monday.

Police said the vehicle was heavily damaged and the driver was trapped inside.

Fire and EMS personnel responded to the crash and used extrication equipment to free the teen.

The driver was transported to the hospital. Police said the extent of his injuries were unknown, but he is expected to survive.

Police said there were no signs of drug or alcohol use, but speed was a factor in the crash.

The wreck remains under investigation.
