Corkum Named Interim Head Hockey Coach; Whitehead 'Disappointed,' 'Not Surprised' by Firing [AUDIO]

The University of Maine announced Wednesday the appointment of Bob Corkum as interim head coach of the men's hockey team, one day after the firing of longtime coach Tim Whitehead. Corkum, a former captain of the Black Bears and NHL player, had been an assistant under Whitehead for the past four years.

Meanwhile, Whitehead addressed the media for the first time since university officials fired him on Wednesday, citing a decline in the once-storied program.

Orrington Man Killed in Early Morning Snowmobile Crash

An Orrington man died early this morning after crashing his snowmobile at the corner of Long Hill Road and Brewer Lake Road in Orrington. David Hall, 42, of was thrown from the snowmobile and struck a telephone pole at about 2:30 a.m., according the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department. Speed and alcohol are believed to be factors.
