SnowCon, an annual tabletop gaming convention, will take over the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor this weekend.

Now in its 9th year, Snowcon features everything from Dungeons & Dragons to checkers, even never-before-played board games being tested by their creators.

The event focuses on "tabletop games of all types: board games, card games, roleplaying games, LARPs, miniatures, demo games, strategy games; as well as a packed game library, vendors, exhibitors, costume contests and more for gamers of all ages and experience levels," according to the event's website.

The organizers of the convention provide many of the games, but attendees can bring their own games to play.

SnowCon will host an Iron GM Local competition. A GM (Game Master) is the person who organizes or directs the story and play in a role-playing game. The winner will advance to the Iron GM Regional at TotalCon, a gaming convention in Mansfield, Massachusetts.

The festivities begin Friday with the annual “So You Meet In a Tavern” party from 8 to 11 p.m. at Mason’s Brewing Company in Brewer. The party will include a tabletop gaming-themed costume contest and tabletop gaming trivia.

Each day of the event, registration begins at 8 a.m. with games beginning at 9 a.m. It's $45 for a weekend gaming pass, $30 for a Saturday-only gaming pass and $20 for a Sunday-only gaming pass. Observer passes will also be available at the venue.
