State police Friday morning recovered a vehicle from the St. Croix River that was stolen from a paramedic in Calais.

Police said the SUV was stolen from the Calais Fire Department parking lot while the paramedic was working.

WABI reported the vehicle was spotted just before 2 a.m. by someone on the pier in Canada.

Police said the unknown car thief drove the vehicle to the boat landing and left it on the boat ramp while it was still in drive.

The SUV drifted about 50 yards downriver.

It was pulled from the water around 7 a.m.
